A Study of Hedges in American Sitcom the Big Bang Theory from the Perspective of Politeness Principle

The Big Bang Theory, as an American sitcom, was well received by audiences at home and abroad since its first broadcast. Fuzziness is a basic attribute of natural language, indispensable part human communications. If people cannot use hedges properly in our daily life, they would make more serious communicative failures. In this article, based on the Politeness Principle Leech, author studied from six perspectives analyzing various factors sitcom such plot, personal characters context. This article aims to help English lovers have better understanding hedges. It also guides reasonable activities, makes interpersonal relationships harmonious. At same time, learners are able achieve cross-cultural communication thinking about differences between eastern western cultures.
